A specialist clinic run by Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust which helps children with a range of physical and mental health conditions has been boosted by a £750 donation.

The Peterborough Child Development Centre has received the donation from Family Voice Peterborough which represents parents and carers in the city.

Lead clinician Dr Venkat Reddy said: “We are very grateful to Family Voice Peterborough for this kind donation. Although we try and make the Child Development Centre a friendly place, young people can sometimes understandably be a little anxious ahead of an appointment.

“For that reason we have games and activities in the waiting area and artwork on the walls to help calm children and make them feel more relaxed. We will be using the money to further improve those areas, and make the Child Development Centre an even nicer place to visit.”

The Child Development Centre, in Thorpe Road, Peterborough, assesses and treats youngsters up to the age of 19 who have significant developmental problems including learning difficulties and physical disabilities and communication issues as well as mental health problems.

Family Voice Peterborough raised the funds at its recent annual dinner which attracted more than 100 people. Scores more people bought tickets to a raffle which took place on night. Following the evening, FVP donated the money to the centre via CPFT’s charity Head To Toe.

Louise Ravenscroft, Chief Operating Officer of Family Voice Peterborough, said: “We are delighted to

make this donation to the Child Development Centre. We support many parents and their children who have been helped by the CPFT staff who are based there.

“The work they do is incredible and that appreciation was reflected in the number of people who supported our annual dinner and raffle, and helped us raise the money.”

CPFT provides mental health services for young people and adults in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough as well as physical health services for older people and adults with long-term conditions. In Peterborough, the Trust is also responsible for children’s community health services such as school nurses.

Last year, the Trust launched its own charity Head To Toe to help fund projects which will enhance facilities for staff, patients and visitors. The Trust employs more than 3,500 staff and about one in eight people in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough come into contact with CPFT’s services each year.

Tom Petie, community fundraising officer for Head To Toe, said: “Supporting projects which will improve care is one of our key aims so were delighted Family Voice Peterborough chose to help CPFT’s Peterborough Child Development Centre.”
