Major new role for CAMEO chief
15 January 2014

Jesus Perez - Consultant Psychiatrist in CAMEO Early Intervention Services at Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust – has been appointed to a major new role.

Jesus is to become Lead Clinical Director of the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Clinical Research Network Eastern.

Funded by the Department of Health, the NIHR conducts cutting-edge research which focuses on the needs of patients and the public.

Last year, it was responsible for helping more than 630,000 patients to take part in research studies that contribute towards improving treatments.

The NIHR is divided into 15 regional networks and Jesus will lead the development of clinical research activity in the East of England, encouraging clinicians to participate in studies. Funding of £19 million has been made available to local Trusts, hospitals and surgeries to support their involvement in clinical research.

He said: “Over the last decade, my research activity and leadership have been driven by a simple vision: every patient should have the opportunity to be involved in research and be treated by clinicians that can enrich their knowledge and careers by participating in clinical research.

“This will continue guiding my role in a new evolution of the NIHR Clinical Research Network that carries a portfolio of exciting challenges.”
