Our nurse undergoes drastic chop in memory of best friend

Shelley's a cut above as she raises £2,400

CPFT community psychiatric nurse Shelley Filomeno has raised £2,400 by shaving her head in memory of her best friend.

The 26-year-old had the drastic trim done in front of cheering friends and family members at a charity evening at Ebanezers in Peterborough last Friday. (28 June)

Shelley decided on the buzz cut following the death of pal, Clare Cruickshank.

Clare, 26, from Woodston, died from Cystic Fibrosis in April as she awaited a lung transplant at Papworth Hospital.

Shelley, who works for the Cameo North team, said: "I can't believe how generous people have been, I can't thank them enough.

"I aimed to raise £1,000, but to actually get sponsorship totalling more than £1,500 for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust is just brilliant.

"People also donated £900 on the night and that is going to the Papworth Trust.

“Clare was my best friend and incredibly brave.
“She had Cystic Fibrosis from birth and was waiting for a lung transplant when her condition worsened and she died.

“Despite all she went through, she never complained and I hope the money I have from shaving my hair off will be used to do more research into the condition.”
"I really love my new hair cut. Its so easy to get ready now. Its also going to save me a fortune on shampoo!"

Cystic fibrosis is caused by a defective gene and affects the internal organs, especially the lungs and digestive system. About 10,000 people in the UK have the condition.
