Chief Executive Aidan Thomas has paid tribute to volunteers at Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust during a party to acknowledge the support they provide to patients, carers and their families.

There are 110 volunteers giving up their time for free to assist teams across the Trust.

The event – part of National Volunteering Week - was held at the Chitra Sethia Centre at CPFT’s Fulbourn Hospital site in Cambridge.

Aidan (pictured, front row second from right) told the volunteers: “I am very grateful for everything you do. Your work is fantastic.

“But it’s not just about the time and help you give us, it’s also about how you help raise awareness of our work to the wider community. I can say enough on behalf of our Trust, the NHS, and our patients.”

Jane Schultz, Voluntary Services Manager for CPFT, (pictured, front row, third from left) said: “This event was just to say thank you to our volunteers for giving up their time to help our patients, carers, and the Trust as a whole.

“Certain teams – like our Dementia Carers Support Service, chaplaincy teams and Darwin Nurseries and Farm Shop - couldn’t do without volunteers.

“They bring so many different skills to the Trust from pampering sessions to yoga, or music groups for our patients, for instance, or they might support our carers and offer them a listening ear. There’s an enormous range of roles they fulfil.

“They also create a link between our work and the local community, and especially with our mental health work that can go a long way to helping reduce stigma.”
